Julie Ann -- Thanks so very, very much for the pictures! Our son, Ryan, is at PK7 with you and that's a WONDERFUL picture of him with his host brother. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! He speaks so very highly of all the PCVs at PK7 -- hope to meet you one day.
Great chatting with you by IM yesterday. Very exciting that today was site announcement day. I hope you post something about it so that everyone can read.
I didn't see any explanation about the term PK 7, so since I lived in Mauritania, I thought I would explain it to your readers who may be wondering what the heck that could stand for.
"PK 7" is an abbreviation that is pronounced "pay kah sept." The "p" stands for "pointe" and the "k" stands for "kilometrage." This is the point that measures seven kilometers, most likely from the city of Rosso, which would be used as the reference here.
When I was living in Nouakchott, I had some friends who lived in PK 10, which was the point of 10 kilometers from Nouakchott, located on the road going to Rosso.
I hope this helps some folks understand what would otherwise be seen as being a strangely-named place. As with so much in Mauritania, it all makes sense... to SOMEBODY.
Julie Ann -- Ryan tells me that you will all be somewhat close at your new locations -- are you going to Dar el Barka? I thought that was what he said. Best of luck to you, and keep blogging!! You're doing a wonderful job! Vicki McAllister
